REAL WEDDING: Jo and Stan at Glasshaus Outside

Jo and Stan’s awesome Melbourne wedding was one of the last ‘big party weddings’ I was a part of pre Covid coming in and ruining our vibe. A warm summer day, pre ceremony cocktails, a really fun and up for it crowd and two legends being married. Jo was super organised, did her research well and assembled an epic team so the day ran smoothly and we all had an absolute riot.

The ceremony took place at Glasshaus Outside and included the crowd , their enormous dog Tuka and an ode to the couple by a legit rap talent. They headed to High St, Thornbury for their pics- nearby their home. The after party took place at Stray Neighbour in Preston and things got rowdy with my man DJ Obliveus behind the decks for the night. Photographer Anna Taylor of Lulu and Lime confided in me that she didn’t want to leave. And I knew exactly what she meant!

You’ll find video from this knees up on my main page, courtesy of Glen from Director’s Edge. A really fun and funny ceremony that was big on crowd participation. My very favourite kind!

Jo answered my four questions below- about their wedding- the lead up, the day and beyond.

1. What was the best decision you made?

Overall we were really happy with how the day came together. However choosing Nat as our our celebrant was a game changer. We'd met Nat, as well as two other celebrants and found she was the one we gelled with most. We wanted the day to be like a fun party with lots of laughs and drinks and Nat helped us to create that exact atmosphere from the get go.

2. Did anything not go to plan/ what would you do differently?

We had three flowergirls and two page boys so naturally something wasn't going to go to plan. One of the flowergirls didn't end up walking down the aisle and one of the page boys didn't have a day sleep and was very tired so my sister carried him down the aisle and it didn't matter one bit. Its overwhelming walking in to the ceremony as a bride, let alone as a child with lots of faces staring at you. We'd spend more time preparing them and explaining what to expect if we did it again.

3. What was your fave part of the day?

Hard question, the whole ceremony was a lot of fun but our first dance was killer. Our song was Bob Marley's Is This Love. Everyone knows the words to this song so naturally everyone sung their heart out. Surrounded by the people you love, dancing with the one you love and singing a song you both love.. the best.

Other favourite parts were where other people contributed - our speeches were hilarious. Smart, heartfelt, engaging and meaningful. We also had Stan's longtime friend and musician do a rap/poem at the ceremony. Not only impressive but super cool and very unique.

 4. In a few words- what advice would you give couples planning their wedding now?

- Don't spend a lot on things that don't really matter and will have minimal impact or value to you. For example invites.

- Buy things which can be reused or sold after or consider hiring.

- Pay your invoices ahead of time and aim to have everything paid at least two weeks before the wedding. You'll have enough to deal with in the two week lead up to focus on.
