Chris and Surina’s Colourful Projekt 3488 Wedding

Surina and Chris were married at one of Victoria’s most standout venues. Projekt 3488, based in Warburton, is such an incredible, warm and carefully curated space. It has so much personality and several different zones to spread your party over, including an amazing back deck with the Ranges in the background and a magical native garden. The owners actually live there so they care about it A LOT. It would be very high on my list if I was planning a wedding now.

All the decisions they made suited who they were- and you can never go wrong with that.

They did a First Look in the Redwood Forest- and all their bridal party photos pre ceremony so they could get straight into the party afterwards.

Surina walked the aisle solo.

They had a massive colourful wedding party, who we seated on one side and out the families together on the other.

Their ceremony was funny, warm and emotional, sending them into the reception on a high.

Cocktails, a killer DJ and that very unique space made for a proper knees up.

Their epic team of vendors elevated it even further. You could do worse than copying and pasting the entire crew (inc, the venue, of course).

Below I asked Surina to share her wedding planning tips:

1. What was the your vibe/ aesthetic of your day?

Our vibe was creating a wedding that reflected who we are/what we like - having fun, a colourful vibe and creating a party. In aesthetic terms probably best described as modern, romantic and celestial.

We had our first look at an other-worldly rainforest.

Colour palette was orange, pink, blue and violet.
We had some touches paying homage to our engagement (in front of the northern lights), my veil embroidered with constellations+moon and our wedding greeting sign with clouds and constellations. Flowers were colourful including ceiling and arch arrangements.

We had a modern cake - large single tier, with colourful blue/violet modern icing on the outside, and a pile of berries and figs on top.

We ended the night with the whole group dancing under a disco ball, and guests sneaking away to get some gelati to cool down.

We had amazing vendors and felt very lucky!

2. What was the best decision you made?

The best decision we made was having a first look - we felt so calm going into the wedding because we were with each other from the very start. The first look set the tone for our wedding, we spent the whole day by each other's side so we could soak up the day together. Bonus - having photos done with the bridal party before the ceremony so we didn't have to do a huge photoshoot after the ceremony (just a smaller one with family only).

3. Did anything not go to plan/ what would you do differently?

Setting aside more time to be ready earlier in the bridal dress and bridesmaids ready in their dresses in order to have more time for getting ready vibes and photos with the bridesmaids - that part of the day was a bit of a rush and a blur. Would have liked to have slowed down and enjoyed that more.

Spend the day by each other’s side as much as you can. The day is about you two, and you’ll want to spend it together

4. What was your fave part of the day?

I think it's a split between our ceremony and the dance floor part of the evening. I loved Chris' vows the most I think, they were so loving. Nat's re-telling of our story in the ceremony and our ninja vows were also highlights. Seeing all our guests enjoying themselves, and getting to boogie with Chris and our loved ones made the dance floor part of our day amazing.

5. In a few words- what advice would you give couples planning their wedding now?

Try to create a wedding that suits who you two are, find some touches that remind you that this is your day, it will make it a more heart-warming experience.
Spend the day by each other's side as much as you can. The day is about you two, and you'll want to spend it together. Guests can come and find you and talk to both of you to give well wishes/to chat.

To stay on track, I had many checklists on the go - using advice from married friends/family, google and doing my own research to create these. I think staying organised helped me, but whatever your approach is, drawing on advice from others/research from elsewhere can be very helpful.

Have a second look as a bride. I was so lucky I had a party dress on hand because I needed something more comfy later in the night. I think a 2nd look was a great idea. Even if you don't want to change up your look -having a cheap just-in-case look available on site can be very helpful if you're in a pinch! Same goes for the groom/bride you're marrying.
